Happy Holidays! Sorry I haven’t been here to update in a while – 2016 can piss off, what a horrible year. On the bright side, here are a few Thunderbirds interviews I did last year that have finally been released. Hope you enjoy them. My upcoming book, Zombies: The Ultimate Visual History (insight Editions, Oct. 4, 2016) is now available for pre-order on Amazon! Here’s the publisher’s description and specs:

Zombies: The Ultimate Visual History is the indispensable visual tour of all things undead. Filled to the brim with hundreds of photographs, movie posters, and pieces of art, as well as quotes from zombie filmmakers, actors, makeup artists, writers, musicians, and visual artists, Zombies: The Ultimate Visual History constructs a graphic narrative from the origin of the archetype through to today’s current obsession with zombies. A treasure trove featuring removable ephemera and sidebars on how zombies have impacted popular culture, the book not only grants an extensive overview of zombie cinema and television, but also all related media, from video games and comics to toys and collectibles.

  • Hardcover: 160 pages
  • Publisher: Insight Editions (October 4, 2016)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1608875156
  • ISBN-13: 978-1608875153
  • Product Dimensions: 9.2 x 11 inches
  • Shipping Weight: 1.7 pounds

I can tell you that I’ve personally selected more than 750 images for the book, and the designer may well add many more. Most in full color, many in gorgeous black and white (like the one above!). This will be the most complete visual volume on the history of zombies ever published.

Please pre-order it so the publisher will be impressed with my marketing efforts, and then share this post with all your friends! I’ll owe you a solid.

My retrospective feature article on Filmation’s GROOVIE GOOLIES is in (and on the cover!) of the new issue of Horror Hound Magazine, #56. You love it if you’re a fan, it covers the series from conception to current day, highlighting all the cool merchandise. Many thanks to Andy Mangels and Jack Mendelssohn for their help in preparing the article and finding images.

Do not attempt to adjust your media player! I recently appeared on the Earth Station One podcast to talk about one of my favorite television shows of all time, The Outer Limits. I was joined by ESO host Mike Gordon and artist and bon vivant Mark Maddox. Hope you enjoy our discussion!

Holy Crap, I’ve been nominated for a Rondo Award! Apparently, a lot of you liked my commemorative article on Gerry Anderson in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine last year, “21st Century Man.” Congratulations to all my friends who were also nominated, and for the first time, congrats to me! You can see the ballot and vote (for me!) here.

I’ve been busy this month working on an episode of the next series of Paddle Pop adventures for Monk Studios, in Thailand. Well, Monk is in Thailand, I’ve been working at home. I’ve finished the first episode I’m scripting and am moving into the next one in a week or so.

If you aren’t familiar with Paddle Pop, it’s an ice cream treat sold in Australia and New Zealand, as well as many other countries. The company that makes it, Streets, produces an animated TV series starring the Paddle Pop Lion mascot that is broadcast in some countries, or included on DVD with the product, or otherwise distributed just about everywhere in the world… except America.

The series I’m writing for is the 8th, so it’s been going on for quite a while. I really like the steampunk design sensibility of the last series, Paddle Pop Begins. The art direction and animation are very good, Monk Studios does some excellent work. Here’s an episode of Paddle Pop Begins.

I did not write this episode, my episodes should be airing and available online next year. I will post links to them when that happens, of course! I hope to write more animation in the future. I’m having a blast!
