More video from the Robocop Panel at Dragon Con 2014!

Here’s the audio from my How To Make A Monster! panel from Dragon Con this year. The recording starts in progress, as makeup artist Rob Fitz is introducing himself. Also on the panel are myself (moderator), makeup artist Todd McIntosh, and makeup artist, actor, and director Tom Savini.
We had a great time talking about effects makeup and creature design, I hope you enjoyed it. And if you were there, please rate it highly on the Dragon Con app!
As I have since the first Dragon Con, I’ll be at this year’s extravaganza talking about all kinds of nerdy greatness. I’m even getting to interview RoboCop’s Peter Weller and Nancy Allen on stage Sunday. See you there!

Unfortunately I did not win a Rondo Hattan Award this year, but I’m very happy to have lost to my good friend Terry Pace. Congratulations, Terry!
I’m going to be at Timegate in Atlanta in a week and a half promoting Monsterama, then in Louisville for Wonderfest the week after. Come see me!
Holy Crap, I’ve been nominated for a Rondo Award! Apparently, a lot of you liked my commemorative article on Gerry Anderson in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine last year, “21st Century Man.” Congratulations to all my friends who were also nominated, and for the first time, congrats to me! You can see the ballot and vote (for me!) here.

I’ve been busy this month working on an episode of the next series of Paddle Pop adventures for Monk Studios, in Thailand. Well, Monk is in Thailand, I’ve been working at home. I’ve finished the first episode I’m scripting and am moving into the next one in a week or so.
If you aren’t familiar with Paddle Pop, it’s an ice cream treat sold in Australia and New Zealand, as well as many other countries. The company that makes it, Streets, produces an animated TV series starring the Paddle Pop Lion mascot that is broadcast in some countries, or included on DVD with the product, or otherwise distributed just about everywhere in the world… except America.
The series I’m writing for is the 8th, so it’s been going on for quite a while. I really like the steampunk design sensibility of the last series, Paddle Pop Begins. The art direction and animation are very good, Monk Studios does some excellent work. Here’s an episode of Paddle Pop Begins.
I did not write this episode, my episodes should be airing and available online next year. I will post links to them when that happens, of course! I hope to write more animation in the future. I’m having a blast!
